Greetings, everyone! Here is the post to update with any extracts, thoughts, or comments you might have for today.

I know I'm a little early - it's barely beyond midnight over here - but better too early than too late, right,

May the magic be with us all. :))

A place to post your pico-plans for the mid-year season. This is for Team June; I'll post a similar entry for Team July on June 30.

Remember:

"There are no goals other than those you set for yourself, and no compulsion beyond what you put upon yourself. There are no limits on genre, style, age, or experience, and both fiction and non-fiction are welcome."

May the magic be with all of us and may your muses be cooperative. :)

Poll results and sign-up for the mid-year pico [May. 26th, 2012|12:48 pm]

Well, folks, since there haven't been any new voters for the last two days, I've now officially closed the poll. Looking at the results, it seems that there are 6 people who checked June exclusively, 6 people who checked July and 8 people who said they could do both.

So, therefore I'm abusing the power gifted upon me by [info]altariel the Great and decide that we'll follow her excellent advice and do the mid-year pico in two teams: Team June and Team July. (And, as someone has suggested, I insert a proper Bwahaha! here. *g*)

In any case, please sign up to the team of your choice. As promised, I'll do the daily posts for Team June and most of July, and my sincerest thanks for the volunteers who offered to take over between July 8-14.

Expect the kick-off post for Team June next Wednesday.

Those Stories I Wrote [May. 22nd, 2012|06:32 am]

stevie_carroll
A Series of Ordinary Adventures is now available from Candlemark & Gleam, after a rather successful Kickstarter launch in the end.

$5.00 for the eBook on its own, or $19.95 for the eBook and print copy. Postage on the print version variable according to where you would like it sent.

I mentioned picowrimo in the Acknowledgements, by the way.

Dear comm admins... [May. 19th, 2012|03:33 pm]

Are we doing the mid-year thing or are we not? If we are, and if we do it in June, I'm ready and willing to help with the daily posts.

What Happened to Stuff I Wrote for PicoWriMo [May. 11th, 2012|09:07 pm]

stevie_carroll
Some of the short stories I've written during picowrimo are in my upcoming collection A Series of Ordinary Adventures, and you've still got four days in which to pre-order it via Kickstarter. There are other goodies too, that won't be available to buy once the book is on regular release.

Take a look over here for the Kickstarter page or at this page on my LJ for links to descriptions of all my stories, including 'Hawks and Dragon', 'The Woman Who Hatched a Fairy's Egg' and 'Seven for the Devil'.

Later in the year I really want to get back to Searching for Julia and knock it into submittable form.

Another mid-year month? [May. 8th, 2012|12:27 pm]

six_old_cars
Last year we held a mid-year "Summer Pico" (a.k.a. "Winter Pico" for our antipodean friends) in July. Is there any interest in doing so again this year? Either June or July, whichever suits more people. I could certainly do with the encouragement to do more writing!

Code-switching [May. 4th, 2012|05:08 pm]

ideealisme
Sorry if this is nothing much to do with [info]picowrimobut it is something I've been working with a LOT with my WIP - I'm holed up in an arts centre trying to finish the Eternal Second Draft. Don't know if I'll manage it, but I should hopefully finish before the end of May.

I've recently come across the interesting phenomenon of code-switching, a linguistic phenomenon where the characters converse using more than one language. There is often an unwritten rule in this practice where the duller, more official stuff is discussed in the "official" language e.g. English, while the more personal feelings prompt a switch into some language closer to the heart. I have heard that people do it a lot when they want to make a point to someone else in their "group" who will get the stuff that outsiders won't.

Both Eva and Lucia do this in my WIP )

I know a lot of people are fan-ficcing fictional worlds, but I'm wondering if code-switching happens there too, between elves and dwarfs and the like? And as for the Man from Uncle crowd, there's rich pickings there, I imagine!

Something manageable that I wrote [Apr. 26th, 2012|08:54 pm]

[mood |embarrassedembarrassed]

No, I still haven't finished any of my pico projects from last November - I got sidetracked by a ten-year-old story that has surprisingly unblocked itself after a six-year-long hiatus. I won't force that (so far) 35-chapter-monstrosity upon you, unless you're absolutel Tokien geeks with an unhealthy interest for the Elder Days and the original, rejected version of the mythology.

However, as a side product, I wrote this short piece during the process. A character study if you want, or a duel for the love of a third one - you decide.
